Tuesdays with TMAC – Win #95 at Huset’s!
(Bill W) August 19, 2014 – Terry McCarl scored 410 win #95 in his storied history at the Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota on Sunday. For car owner Jeremy Scadden’s #6 team, it was 410 win #1. The Altoona, Iowa driver won a spirited battle with Mark Dobmeier to take the top spot. This week finds TMAC at Knoxville Raceway Saturday for Season Championship night before heading back to Huset’s on Sunday.
TMAC had planned to run Jimmy Davies #99 on Friday and Saturday with the Sprint Invaders, but those events were rained out. On Sunday, he was fourth quick in time trials at Huset’s. “The car was a little tight,” he says. “We bounced over the cushion a bit. By the time we went out, it was a little rough for qualifying. We were right there though.”
He would line up fifth in his heat and win it in exciting fashion. “We were able to get by (Dylan Peterson) there on the last corner and win it,” says TMAC. “It was a good race for the fans.”
With a feature inversion of four, TMAC would find himself starting outside of row one. “We were able to get out there and get a lead,” he says. “It hasn’t been often where we’ve started up front this year, so that was different. We’ve been starting back a few rows, and with the competition this year…it’s been tough. The roles were kind of reversed this week.”
TMAC quickly had company in the form of Dobmeier, who started third. “Mark got me in traffic,” he says. “We passed each other two or three times. I was able to get him back, and it was a great race for the fans. It was a really good track. It was a good field of cars and we got into some heavy traffic.”
TMAC’s 95th win at Huset’s is the all-time record. It was also his 281st overall. He leads the current point standings at Huset’s. “It was Jeremy’s first win with a 410, so that was special,” he says. “I’d like to thank him for all that he does for us.”
The seven-time Knoxville track champ enters Season championship night third in the point standings, 124 out of the lead. “It is what it is,” says TMAC. “It’s still mathematically possible (to win it), but Ian (Madsen) would have to fall out. I don’t think he’s fallen out of a race all year, and that’s how you win championships. We had the mag snafu. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, it just happens. That’s how you win and lose championships. I think there’s a chance for us, but again, Ian’s going to have to have a bad night for any of us to catch him.”
