McCarl and Friedrichsen take Spring Sprint Car Nationals at Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (May 15, 2009) – The Jackson Speedway opened its 2009 racing season this past Friday with the Folkens Brothers Trucking / Van Wyhe Livestock Spring Sprint Car Nationals. The nights feature winners were Terry McCarl, Altoona IA, US Army 360 Sprints and Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, Napa of Windom 305 Sprints.
The 25-lap 360 Sprint Car feature saw Terry McCarl lead the entire race start to finish. At the start McCarl would get the early lead from his outside row one starting position. Jack Dover, Springfield NE, grabbed the second position with Billy Alley, Lincoln NE the third spot. The leaders raced in those positions for the opening half of the race. As the race went on McCarl would open up a comfortable lead on the field as Dover maintained second and Alley third. On lap fifteen the red flag came out when fourth and fifth place runners, Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, and Brian Brown, Grain Valley MO, made contact on the back straightaway. Brown would go up and over several times. Both drivers were ok. On the restart, McCarl kept the field behind as Dover maintained second and Alley third. When the checkered flag flew it was Terry McCarl picking up the win followed by Jack Dover, Springfield NE, Billy Alley, Lincoln NE, Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, Chad Meyer, Sioux Falls SD, Jake Peters, Sioux Falls SD, Wayne Johnson, Knoxville IA, Lee Grosz, Harwood ND, Bryan Dobesh, Sioux Falls SD, and Chris Graf Glencoe MN. The Dash was won by Jack Dover with the B Features going to Jody Rosenboom, Rock Rapids IA, and Wayne Johnson. Heat races were won by Wade Nygaard, Lee Grosz, Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, Brian Brown, and Jack Dover.
Two different drivers led in the 20-lap 305 Sprint Car feature race. At the start it was Bob Hildreth, Iowa Falls IA, getting the early lead. Shadrach Sporaa, Boone IA, grabbed the second spot with Casey Friedrichsen, the third spot. On lap two Friedrichsen got by Sporaa putting him back to third. Just past the halfway point, Friedrichsen would move into the lead coming out of turn two passing Hildreth for the top spot. On lap fifteen the caution came out when Jeff Metli, Mason City IA, came to a stop at the pit entrance of the back straightaway. On the restart, Friedrichsen kept the field behind him and went on to take the feature win. Bob Hildreth was second followed by Shadrach Sporaa, Russell Wiese, Lake Park IA, and Frank Phipps, Everly IA. Heat races were won by Bob Hildreth and Shadrach Sporaa.

The 2009 points racing season starts this Saturday, May 23rd with season points opener race featuring the US Army 360 Sprints, Napa of Windom 305 Sprints, IMCA Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, B Modifieds, and Hornets. Hot laps will be at 6:45 with racing to follow.
