Des Moines, IA (July 3, 2018) – Terry McCarl and the TMAC Motorsports team put together two strong nights of finishes with the World of Outlaws last weekend and are geared up for another two nights of action this 4th of July weekend! TMAC will haul the #24 north to Wisconsin to compete with the IRA Sprints before returning to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, all while donning Justice Brothers/Gillund Enterprises on the top wing as this weekend’s primary sponsor.
The brightest points for TMAC and team during the World of Outlaws weekend at Knoxville were the improvements they’ve made in qualifying. “I’m pretty proud of our weekend,” said Terry. “The last couple of years we’ve been struggling in time trials and that always hurts, but it makes your night especially tough with the Outlaws format. Steve [Fitzpatrick] and Doug [Rankin] worked very hard in the offseason to make us better in qualifying and that showed this weekend.”
Terry was able to put the SnowPlow Snow Pushers #24 into the dash both nights, thanks in large part to timing in the top five in his qualifying flight both nights. “The two good nights of qualifying that we had really set us up well each night,” said TMAC. “We had to make a pass on Friday to get into the dash, but were able to get it done and we won our heat Saturday. That was the first time I’ve started on the front row of a heat since the Outlaws went to the new format and that shows how far we’ve come on qualifying.”
TMAC and Brian Brown were the only two Knoxville regulars to lock themselves into the dash each night, though some new setups and equipment left the TMAC Motorsports team fighting to stay near the front both nights. “On night one, we tried out a different wing and it was horrible,” said Terry. “We weren’t very good in the dash and I was actually happy to hold onto 12th in the A-main.”
Saturday night’s main event started out better for Terry, but that was a sign of problems to come. “We’ve been missing on our setup when the track gets a bit slicker like it was on Saturday,” said TMAC. “We have been playing around with our shock package and the car was too good early, which I knew was an issue, because it wasn’t going to stay that way long. I held my own for a while, but we got really loose as the race wore on and fell back to 16th.”
After a long and hot weekend with the Outlaws, TMAC was most happy about his physical condition, which has been slowly improving since suffering a concussion earlier in the year. “I felt as close to 100% as I have since my wreck, which I was a bit worried about with two nights racing in as hot of weather as we had,” said Terry.
Following the solid weekend against tough competition, Terry and the team will be looking to try out some new equipment on Friday night when they head north to do battle with the IRA Sprints at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. “We’ll be running with the IRA on Friday on a track that I really like,” said TMAC. “We won that race last year and Austin ran third. It will be a fun night, as we’ll be experimenting with a new car that was loaned to us from Russ Hall.”
The TMAC Motorsports team will be back for weekly competition at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night and the #24 will be donning a new title sponsor for the weekend of events. “Justice Brothers/Gillund Enterprises will be our primary sponsor this weekend,” said Terry. “They’ve been a great sponsor for myself and my dad before me for a long time; the very first car that I raced had a big Justice Brothers sticker on it, so I’m excited for this weekend!”
